| WHAT IS EXECUTIVE COACHING? |
Coaching is a relatively new partnership between management science and personal change technology. It has been called personal coaching (when the focus is on the individual client), executive coaching (when the focus is on the organizational environment match with the client), and organizational development (when the focus is on the environment. This may be viewed as the Person/Interaction/Environment (or PIE) model and the focus of the coaching may be one or a combination of the PIE factors. For example, a client may benefit from training in interpersonal/political skills in an organizational environment which is not open to being changed. Another example would be the "lack of fit" between the client and the organizational environment which could lead to stress, lack of productivity, and high turn over. These and other issues have been successfully addressed by Dr. Garrison and his clientele over his years of practice with business persons, world-class athletes, and others desiring to improve their work and personal lives.

It has been written that there are four ways of knowing oneself in an organizational environment. First, one may know about oneself and be known by others. Second, one may know about oneself and not be known by others. Third, one may be known by others and not know about oneself. Finally, one may not know about oneself and not be known about by others. The Executive Coaching program at Family Crisis Counseling coaches clientele into greater awareness of self and the organizational environment as well as the interactions between the two (the PIE model). This awareness is translated into assessment of oneself, the organizational environment, and the interactions between the two. From this assessment, an action plan is set up
to address issues of concern.
